A Bit More About My Book

ancient antique architecture art

I have been writing my book for a while now, some would even say too long, and I’ve had to be careful when people ask me what it’s about. I generally tell them it’s a sci-fi and usually state I can’t tell them too much. It always makes a good conversation starter at events but it’s rather wise not to divulge too much info on any project you are working on unless that person is a trusted partner or an editor then you may need to share relevant info. So let me sprinkle in a few golden nuggets about this art without giving too much away.

So What’s The Book About Then?

The story is about a man living on another planet populated by other beings. Though this might not sound original I can assure you that this is a rather extrodinary tale that deals with adult themes. It is a story filled with mystery and mistrust. Secrets and lies with the usual set of protagonists harbouring deathly secrets.

The Book’s Genre

I’d describe it as a sci-fi thriller mixed with elements of an exotic culture and erotica. When I initially started writing it I merely called it a Sci-Fi/fantasy soon after that I labelled its subgenre as a Space Opera although technically the term is regarded to stories that actually take place in space, on star ships and even space stations my story was generally set on an alien planet with just one human character. I became less content with calling it a space opera even though the original story’s draft had those elements, but the bulk of the story just takes place on one planet. Originally I had several planets lined up where the protagonist is able to travel to, but felt that concept was too big for me to put in a single book so there will be sequels that are in the works. The book falls under the sub-genre of Planetary Romance however later novels may include elements of a space opera as I expand on that universe.

Book Launch

Initially when I first started writing this story it was a hobby. I wasn’t serious and had no intention of publishing it. Also I was at university and working so this wasn’t even a focus for me, besides looking back the story was all over the place. I’d never published any written work before and had little knowledge of the publishing industry. Back then self-publishing had just taken off but many authors weren’t considering it and if they were it was as a secondary option. Towards the end of university I attempted to publish a couple of graphic novels so I sent my manuscripts to other publishing companies but they didn’t get back to me which is their loss. Getting this book published will happen now as the book is a goal and I would encourage anyone writing to consider having their work published or doing it themselves. Initially I wasn’t going to do a book launch. A friend suggested I could use a certain venue. I looked into it and other places and then Covid struck. So having a book launch may not be possible at this point in time as we are in lockdown however the book will be published. Just watch this space….
